Learn from others, back up your photos in multiple places!
My mom used to say "smart people learn from their own mistakes, smarter people learn from other people's." SO many people have made this mistake, learn from us to avoid SOOOO many headaches and stressed in the future... I had one issue years and years ago, and I will never ever let that happen again!! :) (Luckily, I was able to re-do the session, but for a day like a wedding, this would be impossible :( ).
As a professional photographer, your clients entrust you with capturing the most important moments in their lives, and it is your responsibility to ensure that those memories are properly preserved. This is why backing up your photos and avoiding formatting memory cards before gallery delivery are critical steps in ensuring the safety and longevity of your client's memories. It is ALWAYS essential to back up your photos in multiple locations.
Backing up your photos in multiple locations provides a safety net in case of a data loss or hardware failure. Hard drives can crash, laptops can be stolen, and memory cards can become damaged, so having your photos backed up in multiple locations minimizes the risk of losing your client's memories. (I even store memory cards in a fireproof safe,) Bonus- storing your photos in multiple locations can make it easier for you to access your photos when you need them, whether you're at home or on the go :)
Furthermore, it is crucial to avoid formatting your memory cards before delivery. Formatting a memory card erases all the data stored on it, including your client's photos. While it is common practice to format memory cards after each shoot, it is essential to make sure that you have safely backed up your client's photos before formatting the card. This not only ensures that your client's photos are safe, but it also ensures that they receive a complete and accurate delivery of the gallery.
It only takes one time to regret not buying a few extra memory cards, or extra online storage space to save you from disaster.
